Post-Apocalyptic Attracting Audiences

As said in my post on certifications, the target audience appears to be 15+ and, from my audience research, the main audience appears to be young adults. The advertisers of the films need to bear this in mind when advertising on websites and in trailers/openings, as they need to appeal to the right audience for the genre.

The 'I Am Legend' website is dark and violent. This appeals to a younger audience as it focuses on the action and dark elements of the films, things that appeal to the target audience more than other audiences. The entire page is intense and exciting, drawing the younger audience in through the use of all of these things.

'The Road', like 'I Am Legend', is dark and exciting, attracting a similar audience. The main image used has fire and rain, with the protagonists looking serious and intense. It uses the same conventions as 'I Am Legend' to pull a similar audience in.

'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', a recent film, uses similar conventions, if a bit different. It's still dark, exciting and intense, using rain to establish the darkness, but is doesn't use intense characters. It merely establishes the bleak setting, with links to other pages at the bottom.

The trailers and advertisements of all of these films use the same conventions to excite the targeted audiences of the age 15+. They often use dark, bleak, dead settings to excite the audience and make them want to see more. Teenagers and young adults favour the post-apocalyptic genre due to it's mature themes and dark, exciting nature. My partner and I should apply this to our opening and consider where the target audience would lie, while also trying to appeal to other audiences as most films do.
